The total investment made into Free Economic Zones since 1996 equals to approximately 285,3 million USD:\u00a095,5 million USD for ZEL B\u0103l\u021bi, 69,2 milion USD \u2013 ZEL \u201dUngheni-Business\u201d, 65,6 \u2013 ZAL \u201dExpo-Business-Chi\u0219in\u0103u\u201d, 18,3 \u2013 ZAL PP \u201dTaraclia\u201d, 16,9 \u2013 ZAL \u201dTvardi\u021ba\u201d, 16,2 \u2013 ZAL PP \u201dVulkane\u0219ti\u201d \u0219i 4,7 millionn USD \u2013 ZAL PP \u201dOtaci-Business\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>181 residents with 8024 employees conduct their activity in the Free Economic Areas\u00a0of Moldova, with ZEL B\u0103l\u021bi (3500), ZEL &#8220;Ungheni-Business&#8221; (2258) and ZAL &#8220;Expo-Business-Chi\u0219in\u0103u&#8221; (1393) employing most of the them. The average salary of an employee is 5,6 thousand lei,\u00a0a bit higher than the national average.<\/p>\n<p>81,4% of the goods produced in the Free Economic Zones were exported in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The residents from these Areas\u00a0paid 216 million lei (10,8 million USD) of taxes in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the autonomous status of these Areas is under threat, since the Economy Ministry wants to appoint their leadership directly and not by\u00a0the Government.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Free Economic Areas or Free Entrepreneurship Areas<\/strong> (FEA) are parts of the customs territory of the Republic of Moldova that are economically separated, with strictly delimited perimeter, where local and foreign investors are allowed to conduct entrepreneurship activities in a preferential regime under the law.
