On March 6th 2017, the President of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM), Vlad Plahotniuc, announced<\/a> that his party would propose a new electoral system for the Parliament- the uninominal voting system.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0grey eminence\u00a0<\/em>of the Moldovan politics says that the voters will be be able to elect a deputy from their circumscriptions (another question of debate).<\/p>\n

“PDM will support the reform of the system of electing the members of the Parliament. The uninominal will give a real possibility to the citizens to decide on who they send to the Parliament, to not vote party lists with anonymous names. The uninominal vote offers the possibility for the districts to be represented in the Parliament by local people, not by deputies put in the list from the center, like the party leader or a group of politicians want”,\u00a0<\/em>stated Plahotniuc.<\/p>\n

The Democrat leader added some new electoral tools: the Diaspora will\u00a0have its own representatives, voters in certain circumscriptions will have the right to dismiss their deputies.<\/p>\n

“We will introduce the option for citizens to dismiss the deputies before the end of their terms, if it is proved that the deputy was bought. The citizens will not wait four years to dismiss him, they will be able to do that immediately”<\/em>, stressed the Democrat.<\/p>\n
