On March 1st, the President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, declared<\/a> that the migration authorities of the Russian Federation decided to apply an amnesty to all Moldovan citizens with travel bans. The decision reportedly follows the agreements made by Dodon and Russia President Vladimir Putin during the meeting in January in Moscow<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“Yesterday, the Russian authorities decided to apply an amnesty to the Moldovan citizens. To be precise, Moldovans who previously had travel bans for Russia, including those with administrative law violations, would have their bans lifted. Those who have penal cases in Russia will not be granted amnesty and will not have access on the territory of the Russian Federation”<\/em>, said Dodon.<\/p>\n

According to Dodon, 17500 Moldovan citizens would be granted amnesty to enter Russia after the Russian Interior Ministry sends the list to the Border Police. Moreover, the President mentioned that some 250000 people that violated the permitted residence term, who are still in Russia, would be able to request a prolongation of their residence from the migration authorities of Russia until March 20th.<\/p>\n

A representative of the Russian Interior Ministry (MVD), Irina Vok, confirmed for RIA Novosti that the Ministry is working on the lifting of the travel bans of\u00a0the Moldovan citizens:<\/p>\n

“In the MVD of Russia, the work is being continued on reviewing the cases of lifting the earlier imposed bans on entering the Russian Federation for citizens of the Republic of Moldova. In a series of cases there have already been taken positive decisions. This task will continue”<\/em>, stated Volk.<\/p>\n

In a response to Ekho Moskvy, quoted by Noi.md<\/a>, the leader of the Moldovan Diaspora Congress in Russia Alexandr Kalinin declared that there is no official statement from the Russian Government of President on the lifting of the bans, so there is no real solution given yet. Kalinin thinks that the lifting of bans\u00a0needs to be done as soon as possible, because some 50% of the approximately 500000 Moldovans currently residing in Russia risk penal or administrative liability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
