On February 21st, Moldova’s\u00a0President Igor Dodon, Parliament speaker Andrian Candu and Prime-Minister Pavel Filip met at the Presidential residency to discuss relevant issues in a trilateral format.<\/p>\n

The three officials again totally disagreed on issues of social-economic importance like the payment of the state obligations to the National Bank<\/a>, the pension\u00a0system reform and the opening of the NATO liaison office.<\/p>\n

Dodon reiterated that the Association Agreement with the European Union brought negative social and economic consequences to Moldova and his intention to cancel the law on the payment of state obligations instead of the three failed banks. Moreover, Dodon informed that he would sign a collaboration agreement with the Eurasian Union on April 2-3. He repeated that he would propose a referendum on\u00a0the Constitution to have\u00a0the power to dissolve the Parliament in other situations than those stipulated, with probable prospects of a\u00a0Presidential republic<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Still, the President seemed to agree that the Transnistrian conflict should be settled within the 5+2 negotiations without mentioning his plan of federalizing the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

Parliament speaker Candu declared that he and PM Filip brought enough arguments in favor of keeping the European development model,\u00a0<\/em>together with the Association Agreement, because he\u00a0would not have seen a state from Eurasian Union having that level of development.\u00a0<\/em>Candu tried to convince that the NATO Office in Chi\u0219in\u0103u would be nothing but an\u00a0Embassy,\u00a0<\/em>and that Moldova needs to stay\u00a0a Parliamentary republic. The Democrat emphasized that the preliminary elections, so much wanted by Dodon, are not appropriate because Moldova needs stability and economic consolidation now.<\/p>\n

In his turn, PM Filip called on the state\u00a0institutions\u00a0<\/em>to collaborate to implement reforms and not lead into a dead-end<\/em>. Filip also assured the President that the pension reform does not stipulate only the indexation, but also the increase of value of pensions,\u00a0to be palpable by every pensioner.\u00a0<\/em>The Prime-Minister added that, besides the payment of the obligations as a state debt, the\u00a0government is working on reimbursement of the funds stolen from the three failed banks. As usual, Filip seemed optimistic towards the relation with the President, compared to the less-diplomatic Parliament speaker Candu.<\/p>\n

To sum it up, Dodon wanted to show<\/em>\u00a0his teeth<\/em> with his apparently strong opposition against almost everything, while Candu and Filip seemed to fail convincing the continuation of the European agenda and reforms.<\/p>\n
