Gazprom rejected the proposal of the Moldovan Government to restructure the debt for consumed natural gas of $6,5 billion US dollars, reports Kommersant.ru<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The restructuring of the gas debt included a plan of handing some assets of Moldova’s national\u00a0distributor Moldovagaz to the Russian corporation, but also the separation of the debts of the right bank of Nistru and the left one- the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic. The plan was mentioned by the President Igor Dodon during his visit at Moscow, but then voiced by the Prime-Minister Pavel Filip at the recent meeting<\/a> with the Vice-Chair of Gazprom, Valery Golubev. Filip then proposed to transfer Transnistria’s debt of $5,7909 billion (88,6% of Moldova’s total $6,5 billion- 1 January 2017) to the local company\u00a0Tiraspoltransgaz\u00a0<\/em>and ultimately, to the local separatist administration.<\/p>\n

Gazprom’s Golubev only mentioned that the restructuring of the past debts would be possible if Moldova maintains the pace of current payments at 100% level.<\/p>\n

Gazprom’s Vice-President later visited Transnistria and met its leader Vadim Krasnoselsky to discuss the\u00a0economic interests of Russia in the energetic sector<\/em>\u00a0the region<\/a>, namely the Russian-owned gas power-plant from Cuciurgan- Moldavskaya GRES<\/a>– <\/i>Moldova’s current electricity supplier. Golubev seemed to agree<\/a> with Krasnoselsky that Gazprom and Transnistria should keep the old format of relations in the energetic sector, thus keeping the same model of supply- paying almost nothing for the gas since 1992- for the sake of secure gas transit\u00a0to Balkans and\u00a0energetic security\u00a0<\/em>of the breakaway region.<\/p>\n
