Dodon proposed during his first press-conference to modify the Constitution through a national referendum to give him more rights to cause elections.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe will propose a referendum through which the people will decide on giving this right to the President. To allow me to dissolve the Parliament in conditions other than the existent ones\u201d<\/em>, said Dodon, emphasizing that it would not make Moldova a Presidential republic. He then added the adverb <strong><em>\u201cyet\u201d.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>-On January 23rd, Moldova\u2019s President, Igor Dodon, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/moldova-president-dodon-challenges-appointing-procedure-prosecutor-general-harunjen\/\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> he initiated the challenging of the results of the contest for appointing the Prosecutor General, ended with Eduard Harunjen being appointed. According to Dodon, the procedure and the limits of the public contest for the seat of Prosecutor General was violated by the Supreme Council of Prosecutors.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis seat\u00a0has to be filled by a person compatible with the position, in a transparent way. B\u0103sescu\u2019s lawyer, Andrei Bivol, submitted a request for trial to the Supreme Court of Justice of Moldova.\u00a0Bivol thinks that Dodon\u2019s decree is illegal and contradicts both the Law on Citizenship and the European Convention on the Citizenship. The case would reportedly be launched in a week.<\/p>\n<p>-Igor\u00a0Dodon wants to prevent the opening of the NATO civil office.\u00a0In a recent interview for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/shows\/sophieco\/374739-moldova-eu-economic-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\">Russia Today<\/a>, Moldova\u2019s President, Igor Dodon, declared he would attempt to prevent the opening of a NATO representation office in the Moldovan capital Chi\u0219in\u0103u.<\/p>\n<p>Dodon believes that the opening of the NATO office is to make Moldova <em>\u201cjoin some military alliances\u201d\u00a0<\/em>in the future. So we are going to block all these attempts, like creating a liaison office and so on. We are going to oppose all the suspicious joint military exercises \u2013 what is the point in them? Who is Moldova going to war with? Why are there American tanks in Chisinau? I mean it\u2019s clear they are not there because of Syria. What we do have close to us is Transnistria and Russia. The assistance is offered within the frame of\u00a0Defence and Related Security Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI).<\/p>\n<p>The NATO experts met\u00a0the members of the Inter-institutional Work Group responsible of the implementation plan of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/moldova-defense-ministry-launches-national-defense-strategy\/\" target=\"_blank\">SNA<\/a>, but also experts who elaborate the Military Strategy of Moldova, in order to analyze the principles and concepts of using the Armed Forces, the security environment, the threats and the risks.<\/p>\n<p>-73% progress in implementing EU-Moldova Association Agreement in 2014-2016, 34% harmonization of EU acquis.\u00a0On January 26th, Moldova\u2019s Government Commission for European Integration, led by Prime-Minister Pavel Filip, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/73-progress-implementing-eu-moldova-association-agreement-2014-2016-34-harmonization-eu-acquis\/\" target=\"_blank\">examined<\/a> the report on the progress of the National Action Plan for the implementation of the Association Agreement with the European Union between 2014 and 2016.<\/p>\n<p>According to the presented report, the quantitative evaluation of the progress on implementing the planned actions during 2014-2016 showed a level of <strong>73,73%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the rate of harmonization of the national legislation with the EU acquis, the press-release of the Moldovan Government only mentions that it is \u201cincreasing\u201d. At the same time, the report shows a disappointing low level of harmonization- <strong>34%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>-A letter signed by 23 lawmakers representing their countries in the Council of Europe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/23-european-deputies-ask-moldova-stop-persecution-key-witnesses-vlad-plahotniuc\/\" target=\"_blank\">ask for the stop<\/a> of political oppression against civil society and key witnesses in Moldova. The deputies from Austria, Estonia, Jordan, Greece, Germany, Turkey, Latvia, the Netherlands, Cyprus, Sweden, Italy, Poland, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Czechia and Lithuania call on the Moldovan authorities to stop political reprisals, reminding that human rights and democracy in Moldova is closely monitored by the Council of Europe. The European officials mention that one of the key priorities of the EU-Moldova Association Agreement is to increase transparency in the implementation of anti-corruption reform and the protection of human rights and freedoms.<\/p>\n<p>-Transparency International <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/corruption-perceptions-index-2016-moldova-123rd-place-score-30100\/\" target=\"_blank\">launched<\/a> a new survey-based index on Corruption Perceptions for the year of 2016.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Moldova was placed on the 123rd place together with Azerbaijan, Djibouti, Honduras, Laos, Mexico, Paraguay and Sierra Leone and was rated\u00a0as more corrupt than in the previous four years- only 30 points out of 100. In 2012, Moldova got 36 points, in 2013 and 2014- 35 points, in 2015- 33.<\/p>\n<p>-The banks of Moldova <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/net-profit-reported-moldovan-banks-increased-28-2016\/\" target=\"_blank\">made an accumulated profit<\/a> of 1,47 billion lei (73,2 million USD) in 2016, reports bancamea, referring to the stats of the National Bank. Compared to 2015 when the banks earned a profit of 1,14 billion, the Moldovan banks\u2019 profit increased by 28,2% in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest profit was reported by Moldova Agroindbank- 403,5 million lei, the second biggest by Mobiasbanca Groupe Societe Generale- 325 million lei, the third by Moldindconbank- 269 million lei, and fourth by Victoriabank- 220,8 million lei. These four most profitable banks made 83% of the reported profit of the whole banking system of Moldova.<\/p>\n<p>-On January 20th, the People\u2019s Assembly of Gagauzia autonomy <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/gagauzia-peoples-assembly-elected-new-speaker\/\">elected<\/a> its sixth president- Alexandr Tarnavsky. Belonging to the Democratic Party camp, the new speaker declared he would neglect the local political rivaly in order to pay attention to the economic development of the region and to build a constructive dialogue with the authorities from Chi\u0219in\u0103u.<\/p>\n<p>-On January 26th, a\u00a0representation office of the so-called Pridnestrovian Moldovan Republic <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/representation-office-transnistria-opened-moscow-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\">was opened<\/a> in Moscow, Russia. The office is aimed at offering help to the Transnistrian citizens who residents or visitors in the Russian Federation.\u00a0The leader of the breakaway republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky, also pointed out that this Representation Office would have some other priorities similar to one of an Embassy: establishing interaction with the Russian Duma and other state institutions of Russia and developing the economic ties between the \u201ctwo\u201d countries.<\/p>\n<p>On January 27th, the\u00a0Foreign Ministry of Moldova <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/moldova-foreign-ministry-dismayed-transnistrias-representation-office-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\">issued a statement<\/a> condemning the decision of the Transnistrian leader, Vadim Krasnoselsky, to appoint a \u201cplenipotentiary representative\u201d and a \u201crepresentation office\u201d of the breakaway Transnistria in the Russian Federation. The office is aimed at offering help to the Transnistrian citizens who residents or visitors in the Russian Federation.\u00a0The leader of the breakaway republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky, also pointed out that this Representation Office would have some other priorities similar to one of an Embassy: establishing interaction with the Russian Duma and other state institutions of Russia and developing the economic ties between the \u201ctwo\u201d countries.<\/p>\n<p>On January 27th, the\u00a0Foreign Ministry of Moldova <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/moldova-foreign-ministry-dismayed-transnistrias-representation-office-russia\/\" target=\"_blank\">issued a statement<\/a> condemning the decision of the Transnistrian leader, Vadim Krasnoselsky, to appoint a \u201cplenipotentiary representative\u201d and a \u201crepresentation office\u201d of the breakaway Transnistria in the Russian Federation. The dismayed Moldovan authorities declare that the action is illegal and illegitimate, because it would contradict the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, and the generally accepted norms and principles of international law.<\/p>\n<p>The Moldovan Foreign Ministry expects the Russian authorities to reject the request of Transnistria, in order to confirm the respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, documented by the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Moldova and Russia.<\/p>\n<div class='heateorSssClear'><\/div><div
