An agreement in this regard <a href=\"http:\/\/mai.gov.md\/ro\/content\/republica-moldova-si-europol-isi-intensifica-cooperarea-domeniul-combaterii-contrabandei-cu\">was signed<\/a> by the Moldovan Interior Minister, Alexandru Jizdan, and the deputy director of Europol, Wil Van Gemert.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the cooperation is to increase dialogue between the police services in Europe in order to solve and combat the issue of cigarettes&#8217; traffic, but also to receive expertise and operational support from EU member states and Europol, in particular.<\/p>\n<p>The Moldovan General Inspectorate of the Police and the Border Police Department already expressed their availability to act and cooperate with Europol specialists.<\/p>\n<p>Moldova is known to be a starting point for illegal traffic of cigarettes to Romania.
