The possible date of joining the European Union for the Republic of Moldova would not be before 2035, writes Ryan Heath at Politico.EU<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to Heath, the national governments of EU member states want to ensure stability and security in EU’s neighborhood, but are not willing to let neighboring countries in before 2025.<\/p>\n

The EU\u2019s golden age of expansion is over.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The advantages for Moldova in its way to joint the EU would be, Heath thinks, that it has “strong ties, a shared language and a similar culture to its neighbor Romania”<\/em>.<\/p>\n

On the other side, Moldova will be resisted, because it “has a breakaway republic, Transnistria, supported by a Russian military presence, and is poorest of the prospective EU members”.<\/em><\/p>\n

Another obstacle on the way to EU membership is the recent election of anti-European President, Igor Dodon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Overall, Moldova would have a 50% chance of joining, just like Macedonia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.<\/p>\n
