On December 18th, the Party of Socialists of Moldova held<\/a> its 14th Congress, gathering about 800 delegates from Moldova and other 16 states.
\nThe events was also attended by Vice-Presidents of Russian Duma: Vladimir Vasiliev, head of United Russia caucus, and Olga Epifanova, member of the Central Committee of the “Spravedlivaya Rossia”.<\/p>\n

As Moldova’s President-elect Igor Dodon<\/a> had to cede his party membership, former Prime-Minister Zinaida Grecean\u00eei was elected as new President of the Socialists’ Party.<\/p>\n

Zinaida Grecean\u00eei held the position of Prime-Minister of Moldova between 31 March 2008 and 14 September 2009, during the ruling of the Communists’ Party. During 2009-2010, Grecean\u00eei was a deputy from the Communist lists. In November 2011, she, along with Igor Dodon and Veronica Abramciuc, abandoned the Communist caucus and joined the Socialists’ Party of Moldova.<\/p>\n

Aside from election of their President, the Socialists also approved the new members of the Republican Council. A special resolution of the Congress stressed the priorities of the party policy.
\nThe resolution states the unchanged principles of the Moldovan Socialists: “social equity, developed economy, state neutrality and independence, Moldovan originality and identity, Orthodoxism and traditional values, Moldova’s reintegration, relaunching the strategic relations with the Russian Federation and the integration in the Eurasian Economic Union, transition to reciprocally advantageous relations with the European Union and the EU member states”<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The Socialists think that the way “from opposition to government”<\/em> is under development since Igor Dodon won the Presidency of Moldova, and pledge for snap Parliamentary elections, favorable for the “realization of the party program, Development Program of the country and the Federalization Concept of Moldova and other fundamental documents”<\/em>. The Red Star Party claims it would not collaborate in any way with the current oligarchic government and majority. Moldova’s Socialists also reiterated their position of protectors of Moldovan statehood, asking for the ban of “Unionist Ideology” and the organizations that support\u00a0the liquidation of Moldovan statehood, together with the introduction of “History of Moldova” in school curriculum.<\/p>\n

One of the main priorities set by the Socialists is to join the Eurasian Economic Union and to cancel the Association Agreement with the European Union, so that the Moldovan products reenter the Eurasian, specifically Russian, market.<\/p>\n\n

A special attention in the resolution was drawn to the project “Two banks- one space”, a platform for collaboration with the politicians and civil society from Transnistria.<\/p>\n
