The project is the second part of the interconnection of gas transportation system between Romania and Moldova, aimed at improving energy security. <\/p>\n<p>41 million euros would be given by the EIB to the Government of Moldova that will allocate the resources to VestMoldTransGaz for the construction of the pipeline. A commission responsible for research of the possible route of the pipeline was also approved.<\/p>\n<p>The approximate calculations estimate that the total cost of building the Ungheni-Chi\u0219in\u0103u gas pipeline would be 113 million euros. The European Union would contribute to the project with a grant 10 and 20 million euros for the two phases of the project, while the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/ebrd-offering-41-million-euros-ungheni-chisinau-gas-pipeline\/\" target=\"_blank\">offer a 41 million euros loan<\/a>.<br \/>\nRomania too offered <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/romania-offers-550-thousand-euros-ungheni-chisinau-gas-pipeline\/\" target=\"_blank\">550 thousand euros<\/a> as a grant for the construction of the pipeline and other <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/romania-offers-350-thousand-euros-support-building-gas-distribution-center-ungheni-moldova\/\" target=\"_blank\">350 thousand euros<\/a> for the building of gas distribution center in Ungheni.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moldova.org\/en\/signed-moldova-will-buy-romanian-gas-beginning-from-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">previously built pipeline<\/a> of 43 km from the Romanian city of Ia\u0219i to the Moldovan city of Ungheni was able to transport up to 1,5 billion cubic meters of natural gas but it was finally agreed to deliver only 50 million cubic meters per year, due to the low price of the Russian gas provided by Gazprom.
