On December 13th, the Constitutional Court of Moldova validated<\/a> the results of the Presidential elections from November 13th. Thus, Igor Dodon is confirmed to be the new President of the Republic of Moldova. <\/p>\n

The constitutional judges, led by Constantin T\u0103nase, decided that the complaints declared by Presidential candidate Maia Sandu are not subject to debate in the Court: insufficient voting ballots for Moldovans living abroad, organized transportation and corruption of voters, involvement of the Moldovan Orthodox Church, multiple voting, distribution of defamatory booklets by representatives of the counter-candidates and the favoring of the counter-candidate by some media outlets. The decision of the Court stipulates that the impossibility of exercising the voting rights by the Moldovan citizens living abroad did not influence heavily the results of the elections. Moreover, the Constitutional Court does not have the necessary tools to administrate proof or to hear witnesses, so that the complains and challenges have to be examined by the common courts.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, the Court sent an appeal to the Parliament of Moldova to clarify the legislation on the examination of complaints in the electoral domain, since the common courts declined the respective competences.<\/p>\n

Igor Dodon will have to take oath of office in front of the Constitutional Court and the Parliament of Moldova in maximum 45 days.<\/p>\n
