-On December 8th, the acting President of the Republic of Moldova signed<\/a> the decree to appoint Eduard Harunjen in the position of Prosecutor General for a mandate of seven years. Harunjen took oath of office on the same in front of the President Timofti and the members of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors, those who elected him. The ceremony was done without the press and the whole appointment was announced through a press-release.
\nMoldova\u2019s President-elect, Igor Dodon, blamed<\/a> his former counter-candidates Maia Sandu and Andrei N\u0103stase for not allowing him to be inaugurated<\/a> and thus favoring the appointing of prosecutor close to oligarch Plahotniuc. Sandu responded to Dodon’s accusation, saying that he is “a bad actor” in “a bad play” in agreement with Plahotniuc.<\/p>\n

-On December 9th, the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) announced<\/a> it would attack at the Constitutional Court the decision of appointing of Eduard Harunjen in the position of Prosecutor General of Moldova, as it is \u201can anti-citizens decision that violates the right of the citizens to benefit from a real reform of the justice\u201d. The attack will be made through the deputy Grigore Cobzac, who supported the initiative.<\/p>\n

-On December 9th, 13 NGOs from Moldova issued<\/a> an statement to condemn the process of appointing the candidate Prosecutor General, Eduard Harunjen. The civil organization think that the hurried appointing seriously affects the trust in the Prosecution Office and feeds the suspicion that it was made with a specific hidden purpose.<\/p>\n

-The former Presidents of the Republic of Moldova, would be given, during 4 years, the right to use cars, guards, to have offices and personal assistants ensured by the state, along with other facilities. A draft law in this sense was approved on December 8th<\/a> in the first lecture by the Parliament. The initiative launched by the governing majority was criticized by the opposition, for presumably preparing a gift for the acting President Nicolae Timofti, who was a \u201ccalm President, who did not cause problems\u201d. Timofti would thus be rewarded for his recent controversial appointment of Eduard Harunjen as Prosecutor General of Moldova. Even former Communist head of state, Vladimir Voronin, claimed that the proposals are \u201cnonsense\u201d.<\/p>\n

-On December 5th, the Government of Moldova approved<\/a> the law of state budget for 2017, proposed by the Ministry of Finance. The Moldovan Government expects 3% economic growth, 10% increase in exports and 9% in imports. The draft law states that the incomes to the state budget will increase by 11% to a total of 32,8 billion lei, increase mainly caused by higher taxes and bigger grants (2,91 billion lei).
\nThe expenditures will rise by 9% to 36,9 billion lei, due to the raise of salaries, additional spending on reforms and payment of state debts.
\nThe draft law of 2017 budget was approved by the Parliament in the first lecture on December 9th.<\/p>\n

-On December 5th, the Government of Moldova approved<\/a> a series of changes to the legislation on the pension system. The current 26% rate of replacement of income with pension will be increased since April 2017 up to 45% at the end of 33 years working experience. The pensioning age will also be gradually increased with six months per year for women and four months per year for men until 2026, when it will reach the age of 62 years for women and 65 years for men. The statistical data shows that approximately 570000 Moldovan pensioners receive pensions lower than 1300 lei ($64).<\/p>\n

-On December 10th, Marian Lupu announced<\/a> his resignation from the position of president of the Democratic Party of Moldova at the session of the Political Council of the party.

-A new law authored by five deputies<\/a> of the Parliament of Moldova proposes to install a state of liberalization of capital and fiscal stimulation for persons to declare capital that they previously hid or attributed to other persons. Moreover, the enterprises would be exempted from paying penalties, fees and unpaid taxes. Everything in exchange for a 2% tax.<\/p>\n

-The EBRD extended a loan of 10 million euros<\/a> to Mobiasbanca \u2013 Groupe Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale to support development of quality and services of local SMEs, beneficial to cross-border trade and consequently, economic growth in Moldova. The EU will also provide interested SMEs with grant incentives of up to 15 per cent from the loan amount as well as technical assistance in the form of advisory services from international consultants and the EBRD\u2019s Advice for Small Businesses program.<\/p>\n

-On December 6th, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed<\/a> a loan agreement with the City Council of Chi\u0219in\u0103u to provide \u20ac10 million to Moldova\u2019s capital to improve the energy efficiency of its public buildings, under new Green Cities framework. The EBRD funds will finance the renovation of over 100 buildings such as kindergartens, schools and hospitals. The EBRD contribution in the project will be supported by a \u20ac10 million loan from the European Investment Bank and a \u20ac5 million investment grant from the E5P Fund.<\/p>\n

-Moldova is a country that is being emptied of its active inhabitants, due to increased economic migration after year 2000, reads Equal Times’ article “MOLDOVA: A COUNTRY BEING EMPTIED OF ITS INHABITANTS”<\/a>. According to author Julia Beurq, Moldova is losing 30,000 inhabitants a year on average, and this could be the case for 40 per cent of the population by 2050.
