The former Presidents of the Republic of Moldova, would be given, during 4 years, the right to use cars, guards, to have offices and personal assistants ensured by the state, along with other facilities. A draft law in this sense was approved on December 8th in the first lecture by the Parliament. <\/p>\n

The initiative launched by the governing majority was criticized by the opposition, for presumably preparing a gift for the acting President Nicolae Timofti, who was a “calm President, who did not cause problems”. Timofti would thus be rewarded for his recent controversial appointment of Eduard Harunjen as Prosecutor General of Moldova. Even former Communist head of state, Vladimir Voronin, claimed that the proposals are “nonsense”<\/em>. <\/p>\n

The Democrat deputy, Dumitru Diacov, motivated the proposal with a “minimal contribution to keeping traditions”<\/em>, with the need to respect “the institution”<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Until now, the former Presidents of Moldova had a special pension, free healthcare, free treatment, diplomatic immunity and guards. The proposed facilities existed until 2001, but were canceled by a decree of Vladimir Voronin.<\/p>\n
