On December 7th, a reunion of experts of international financial organization and representatives of the Moldovan Government took place<\/a> with the aim to address the priorities of modernization of the transportation infrastructure. <\/p>\n

\nOne of the main topics was the reformation of the state enterprise “Calea Ferat\u0103 din Moldova” (CFM), the Moldovan Railways company. The Transportation Ministry informed about the upcoming process of modernization of railways by using the funds given by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and European Union’s program “Neighbourhood Investment Facility”. Moreover, the Moldovan Railways company would be reformed in accordance to a concept created with the help of French EGIS, so that it becomes profitable and attractive for national and international transporters.
\nSome expect the transformation of CFM into an open company with available shares. <\/p>\n

Previously, the European Investment Bank (EIB) lent 50 million euros<\/a> to the Republic of Moldova to finance the improvement and modernization of Moldovan railways and rolling stock. The 50 millions add up to other 52,5 loaned by the EBRD and the 5 millions offered by the European Union through the Neighborhood Investment Fund. The total budget of the restructuring of CFM will thus be made of 105 million euros. The project consists of the acquisition of 11 mainline diesel locomotives for goods and passenger transportation and the rehabilitation of certain sections of the railway infrastructure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
