On November 25th, the Parliament of Moldova adopted with the vote of 84 deputies the change of the procedure of designating the prosecutor general. The change of three articles defines the Prosecution Office, the competences of Prosecutor General and his subordinates, and the activity of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors. <\/p>\n

The future Prosecutor General of Moldova will be approved by the President at the proposal of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors and will have a non-renewable mandate of 7 years. The prosecutor general will be chosen through a public contest.
\nThe President would be able to reject the candidate prosecutor general only once, but the refusal should be motivated. In the second proposal made by two thirds of the Council, the head of the state would be obliged to sign the decree of appointing the head of the prosecution system. <\/p>\n

A part of the 84 deputies who voted for the change doubted its minimizing effect of the political impact on the Prosecution Office.<\/p>\n

So far, six candidates<\/a> were announced to be participating in the public contest for the position of Prosecutor General of Moldova.
