On November 24th, the National Bank of Moldova adopted a decision<\/a> to adjust the short-term monetary policy.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the base rate on short-term monetary policy operations was maintained at the 9% level. The interest rates for overnight loans were set to 12%, while the rates for the deposits were maintained at 6%.<\/p>\n

The decision states that the required reserves ratio from financial means attracted in freely convertible currency would be maintained at the level of 14% of the base. Those attracted in MDL (Moldovan leu) and non-convertible currency would be set at the level of 35%.<\/p>\n

The decision shows that the annual inflation rate constituted 2,5% in October, 0,5% less than in September 2016 and 10,7% less than in October 2015. The National Bank draws attention that October was the second month in a row when the inflation rate was out of the variation interval of 1,5% from the targeted 5%.
\nThe annual dynamic of the core inflation rate (1,8%) and the alimentary products prices inflation (1,4%) reportedly exercised the most impact on the annual inflation rate.
\nThe core inflation rate constituted 5,9% in October, 0,8% less than in September.<\/p>\n

The causes for this inflation rate are reported to be the modest internal demand, the adjustment of the electrical energy tariff in April, the decrease of prices for food products and energetic resources on regional and global level compared to 2015. The free trade agreement with Turkey along with the expiring custom taxes for products from Ukraine contribute to the disinflation. <\/p>\n
