The President-elect of Moldova, Igor Dodon, tends to tell more to the Russian media than to the Moldovan one. In his recent interview for Interfax<\/a>, Dodon declared that Moldova should not enter any economic or political union, if it wants to save its statehood. <\/p>\n

The Socialist President says that “joining the European Union is possible only without Transnistria and without Gagauzia”, even if the center of the country wants to join, because of the “political” mix of preferences.<\/p>\n

“For me, the Association Agreement means the necessity to implement reforms within the country: in the court system, in the prosecution, in the social sphere. This is what the Agreement of Association with the EU means. But not joining the European Union, because joining the EU can kill our country, our statehood”<\/em>, thinks Dodon.<\/p>\n

Asked about the recent IMF agreement and the first transferred part of the loan- 38 million USD, he answered he would review the memorandum and change some “unacceptable points”: the question of pensions, tariffs, the reducing of the agricultural subsidies.
\n“We opened the market for European goods, and now they are lacking us of the subsidies for agriculture? The memorandum prohibits raising salaries, reduces financing in the budgetary sphere. This can’t be touched now, because the situation is already tough”<\/em>, thinks Dodon, promising to come with Presidential decrees against the agreement.<\/p>\n

Asked about how he would cooperate with the current Parliamentary majority and Government, Dodon said he would start asking people the question of a referendum to announce snap elections, or the changing of the Constitution “to give more competence to the President”.<\/p>\n
