They live in a small apartment on the outskirts of Chi\u0219in\u0103u. From modest pension they receive, they manage to maintain themselves, but also to help their children and grandchildren and to give them each a pie or something canned for the winter. Passed through the famine, Russians and Romanians, they have made it a habit to take home sacks of potatoes, carrots and onions. For some time they have been fearing that hard times are coming. They are God-fearing people, have over 20 icons all over the house, the Scripture is always open and they miss no church service. TV, brought by children, covered with a towel – to save electricity. The only sources of information are antique radio, the neighbors, the relatives and those from the church. There Zinovia (77 years) and Trifon (87 years) Grosu heard that Maia Sandu is “with the Americans” and that, if elected President, will bring US Protestant Christians. On November 13, Grosu family unanimously voted Igor Dodon, who won the majority of the votes.<\/p>\n

He voted for Maia Sandu in the first round<\/strong>
\nIn the first round of presidential elections, Mr. Trifon voted differently. “People in the yard were all saying that I need to vote for Maia Sandu. And my neighbor told me: “I will vote only for Maia” and I did listen to him. Now Zina told me that Maia will bring Protestants in Moldova. I argued a lot with our neighbor that I voted for Dodon this time…”, says the pensioner. His wife more talkative by nature, outraged tells that the radio all day transmitted only good things about PAS candidate. She, clearly disturbed, admits that she decided to give her vote for Igor Dodon after discussion with parishioners from the church she attends. “More women thought that it would bring us these American Protestants. Here, there are the Sodom and Gomorrah (note: sexual minorities), but not in Russia! Putin did not want to approve the law. You can find the greatest faith in Russia, there is the Metropolitan Kiril…”, she motivates her decision. Deeply faithful, mrs. Zinovia did not allow us to take a photo of her. “I do not want to appear in the Internet, there lies the Devil”.<\/p>\n

\n“People are saying”<\/strong>
\n“People talk, and she listens to them all. Either she knows or not, she keeps talking”, says the old man nervous. “I voted for Dodon. How can we vote for Maia? She is with the Americans. Do we need that all Protestants come to Moldova? We are Christians”, the woman interrupted him. “In America, there are many Protestants. They are going to ruin the faith of the Catholics and that of ours. You’ll see! Valea (note: a friend) spoke to a Protestant and saw what is it like for them. They have their disco “churches”. And people say that Maia Sandu made “order” in schools. Come on, with Dodon everything will be fine!”, continued Mrs. Zinovia.

However, it seems that European values scares Grosu family less than the American ones. At the parliamentary elections in 2014, they voted parties from the current government, who have built their campaigns by advocating EU integration. Now, however, they are very disappointed by everything that happens, from the billion stolen and ending with some election promises that were not fulfilled. “They deceived us that they would give us 500 lei for Elders’ Day. And finally they have it only their own. Valea had to go several time to the town hall to receive the money. Trifon received it last year, I did not until now”, says manifestly angry woman. Asked who promised such gifts, she has not been able to tell us nothing but “they said it on TV”.

\nNow, the biggest fear of elders is the beginning of an armed conflict. They went through famine, war, deportations and are confident that their grandchildren will catch harsher times. “The important thing is to not begin a war, but if they start a war, God forbid! If America comes, you will see what they will do here with Russia!!”, says Mrs. Zinovia worried.
