On October 23rd, the General Inspectorate of Police of Moldova conducted<\/a> an operation of closing the casinos, as the Licence Chamber announced about the suspension of licences for gambling for 65 firms.<\/p>\n

Over 200 policemen were involved in sealing 159 casinos, as some owners did not want to conform to the decision of the Licence Chamber.

The operation was conducted after, on October 22nd, the Anti-Corruption officers and prosecutors searched the Licence Chamber and retained five employees, including one deputy director, reports anticoruptie.md<\/a>. The arrested persons are accused of frauds regarding the issuance and prolongation of licences for gambling firms, an action that caused losses of 15 million lei to the state budget. The licences were registered with incomplete sets of documents and with delayed payments. <\/p>\n

The accused persons can be imprisoned for up to 10 years, with a ban to occupy public positions for 10 to 15 years.<\/p>\n
