Two US Congressmen, David Shweikert and Randy Weber, sent a letter to Christine Lagarde, the head of the IMF, asking to ensure no Moldovan officials or oligarchs involved in the 2014 banking thefts will profit from the upcoming $179 million loan agreement for Moldova.<\/p>\n

“As part of the consideration process by the IMF Executive and Management Boards, we urge the IMF to use the resources at its disposal to ensure that those with involvement in the disappearance of the $1 billion are not the same individuals- namely current government officials and ruling oligarchs- that stand to benefit from this loan, before approval of this agreement”<\/em>, emphasize Schweikert and Weber.<\/p>\n

The Republican Congressmen tell Lagarde that the Moldovan banking system was used in the Russian laundromat for laundering around 20 million USD with a supposed involvement of the Democrat oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc.<\/p>\n

In the end, the US Congressmen ask to report on the, if any, investigations on the 2014 “banking scandal” and the projected steps in the direction of financial sector reforms to ensure fiscal transparency and economic growth.
