Urban Ahlin, the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, together with diverse Swedish MPs visited the Republic Moldova between October 8th and 10th “to encourage the implementation of reforms from the European agenda”. <\/p>\n

When meeting the Speaker of the Moldovan Parliament Andrian Candu, Ahlin discussed about the effects of the Swedish financial and technical support for Moldova. The two Speakers also talked on the agenda of the fall session of the Moldovan Parliament, the possible agreement with the International Fund, the restart of external financing, but also about the required interconnection of Moldova with the European gas and electricity networks, transparency of the banking sector and the business environment. The questions of political dialogue with G\u0103g\u0103uzia and Transnistria, along with the need for involvement of the civil society in the decision-making process were discussed as well, reads the press-release of the Moldovan Parliament<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Ahlin announced about the implementation of a new technical assistance program worth 4,5 million US dollars for the institutional development of the Moldovan Parliament, financed by the Government of Sweden and supported by the United Nations Development Program.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Swedish Speaker had a meeting with the acting President of Moldova<\/a>, Nicolae Timofti.

\nTimofti and Ahlin talked about the bilateral cooperation, the upcoming Presidential elections, the regional security and the impact of the Russian propaganda in Moldova. Timofti thanked Sweden for supporting Moldova, through the EU, during the embargo imposed by Russia, and emphasized that about 70% of the Moldovan exports are directed towards the European Union.
\nTimofti also expressed his hope that the next President of Moldova will continue the European path of development.
