The activists group, together with municipal counselors from opposition parties, have asked for the referendum to take place on the same date as the presidential elections on October 30, 2016, as to lower the costs. They filed an application toward that goal. Afterwords, civic activist Victor Chironda has been elected as president of the group.<\/p>\n<p>Now officially registered by the &#8220;Centru&#8221; Court, the group requested lists for signature gathering from the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), but Chirtoac\u0103 had other plans. He appealed the &#8220;Centru&#8221; Court&#8217;s decision to register the group, thus preventing CEC from giving out the lists. The mayor&#8217;s attorneys requested for the case to be transferred from the Appeal Court to the Supreme Justice Court. According to the activists, the purpose of this decision is to postpone the referendum so it won&#8217;t be organized during the presidential elections but, in conformity with the law, at least 6 months after that.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Justice Court transferred the case to the Appeal Court in B\u0103l\u021bi at the request of the mayor, citing concerns that &#8220;the judges from the Appeal Court in Chi\u0219in\u0103u have previously judged other cases involving the City Hall and Chirtoac\u0103&#8221;. The Appeal Court in B\u0103l\u021bi decided to nullify the decision regarding the group&#8217;s official registration.
