The participants were waving Victory and Moldovan flags, wearing the Russian St.George ribbon, shouting &#8220;We remember, we are proud!&#8221;, &#8220;Victory!&#8221;, &#8220;Hurra!&#8221;, &#8220;Thanks for the Victory!&#8221; and singing wartime songs.<br \/>\nThe event was attended by the Russian member of Duma from the Spravedlivya Rossia Party, who <a href=\"http:\/\/moldnova.eu\/ro\/deputat-rus-azi-este-ziua-nu-doar-eliberarii-moldovei-de-fascisti-dar-si-de-romani-5308.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">declared<\/a> that Moldova was &#8220;liberated not only from German fascist troops, but also from Romanians who occupied it&#8221;. The offensive resulted in the encirclement and destruction of the German forces, allowing the Soviet Army to resume its strategic advance further into Eastern Europe. It also forced Romania to switch allegiance from the Axis powers to the Allies. Following the success of the operation, Soviet control over Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina, which had been occupied by the USSR in 1940, was re-established.
