That&#8217;s why the detainees discover new abilities, new hobbies or they continue those they had in liberty. <\/p>\n<p>6615 detainees are spending their terms in Moldova, 110 of them are sentenced for life. The majority, 103 of them, are detained at the 17th Penitentiary in Rezina, the most secure prison in Moldova.<br \/>\nBu for the first time in Moldova, 11 life sentenced detainees from Rezina will play the Hamlet. It has the goal to offer opportunities to recover to the detainees and to help their intelectual and spiritual development. However, the idea of teaching acting to detainees from Rezina didn&#8217;t come up suddenly to the directors. &#8220;On September 15, 2015, we had a little show that was watched by some guests. Among them, there were Lumini\u021ba \u021a\u00e2cu and Mihai Fusu. They had the idea to play Hamlet at the prison. They said they saw little talents that need to be improved. They told us they would come to teach us acting&#8221;, tells the life-sentenced Sergiu. Once promised, in spring, there was announced that the detainees can register to play in Hamlet. Only 11 were willing to do it. The course began in May. <\/p>\n<p>The majority of those involved in the theater project were imprisoned in the nineties, when they barely turned 18 and when Moldova was in the tops of crime rates, including the rate among the young people. The corruption was even bigger in the justice system. This is the only thing the detainees remember. &#8220;I would like the society to not judge us by what they saw in the press or by what we committed. It is necessary that people understand what brought us to the prison, what country we are living in and what justice we have. I hope more people see us and understand that we are also human beings and we don&#8217; bite anyone, even if we committed a crime&#8221;, says Maxim, full of hope that through this show, he together with detainees will improve the image of those sentenced for life. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are people that were imprisoned for more than 20 years, because they were young when committed something. We want to show the society that the detainees are not as bad as people think&#8221;, says Ion Cerchez, the head of the penitentiary. According to him, the show will take place on September 15th in the interior court of the prison, which will host some 200 people in the audience.<br \/>\nThe theatrical piece would be played on the scene of a theater in Chi\u0219in\u0103u as well. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Welcome! Welcome to the prison, such a prison!&#8221;, the detainees start the rehearsal. They step on the scene and they want to be prepared, because, soon, guests from all over the country will come to watch them, together with their relatives, not more than two, as allowed.<\/p>\n<p><em>The theatrical project from Rezina is conducted by the Arts Center COLISEUM together with the Department of Penitentiary Institutions from Moldova, at the initiative of the Norwegian Mission of Rule of Law Advisers to Moldova (NORLAM).
