The peace-keeping mission formed out of soldiers of the Russian Federation turned 24 years on July 29th, being founded on the same day in 1992. <\/p>\n

The founding day was celebrated in Bender by the Transnistrian authorities along with the military and political representatives of Russia. The head of the separatist government Pavel Prokudin stressed that the mission in its form should continue because people of Transnistria feel safer: <\/p>\n

“Together with the Russian troops in Transnistria, hope for a peaceful came and evolved into a safety for tomorrow. Now in Transnistria, all the people feel in safety because of the Russian soldier. There were many talks, whether this mission is needed or not, I am sure that in this form this peace-keeping mission should continue in Transnistria.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The head of the Supreme Soviet, Vadim Krasnoselski, stressed that the foundation of the mission stopped “the agression of Moldova in Transnistria”, and that now the Russia Federation is a guarantee for peaceful conflict-solving and for the unblocking of the region. <\/p>\n

According to Nikolay Nikonov, the high commander of the peace-keeping forces, “more than 200 pieces of ammunition were retained, more than 14 thousand munitions were annihilated”. The head of the Russian stationary forces (not peace-keepers), Andrey Zhadin, emphasized that during the last 24 years, nothing serious happened and this is, quote, “due not only to us, but all the peace-keepers in the mission”. Zhadin probably ignores the case of Vadim Pisari, a Moldovan young man who was shot by a Russian peace-keeper on January 1st 2012<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The speeches were followed by a military parade of the peace-keepers and a military show for visitors. <\/p>\n

The 24-years old peace-keeping mission in the buffer zone is maintained by 402 Russian troops, 492 Transnistrian soldiers, 355 Moldovan ones and 10 Ukrainian military observers at 15 checkpoints.
