The state would get 1% of the income of the extracting company. <\/p>\n<p>The exploiting company would need to have at least 20 years of regional experience, 15 years of technical experience and at least 100 million US dollars of investment made already somewhere. <\/p>\n<p>According to Vasile Alcaz, the director of the Geology and Seismology Institute, the research work is needed to confirm or deny the existence of serious oil\/gas resources in the south of Moldova, as the old research from the times of Soviet Union is irrelevant and outdated. <\/p>\n<p>The gas resources are now mainly concentrated in Victorovca and Baimaclia villages from Cantemir district, while the oil is extracted by Valiexchimp at V\u0103leni, in Cahul district. The volume of natural gas is estimated at around one billion cubic meters, which would ensure 90% of Moldova&#8217;s needs for one year. Although 15 out of 21 gas sites are functional, the company extracts some 10-20 thousand cubic meter a month, as it doesn&#8217;t access to the national distribution network. <\/p>\n<p>Besides the extracting during the Soviet times, the Government of Moldova tried to restart the oil and gas extraction in 1995, when the American Record LTD was given an exclusive concession for 20 years. In 2007, the exclusive rights were taken by the Government for not fulfilling the obligations.
