On June 30th, the judges of the Appeal Court of Chi\u0219in\u0103u decided that the mayor of Orhei and controversial businessman Ilan Shor should stay under preventive arrest. They rejected the demand made by the lawyers of Shor, continuing the preventive arrest of 30 days<\/a> in the cells of the Anti-Corruption Center.<\/p>\n

According to the prosecutor Andrei B\u0103ie\u0219u, the necessity of the arrest come from the fear that Shor could influence the witnesses in the time the proof is being collected. The prosecutor explained that Shor wore a protective jacket, not a bulletproof one, to be safe in the context of the protests. <\/p>\n

While being escorted out of the building, Shor himself declared that the case is a “political-criminal” one. His lawyers, Denis Ulanov and Iulian Balan, later stated that Shor is innocent and that the trial is unfair:<\/p>\n

“Despite the arrest, he gives statements. We are convinced that the arrest contradicts the laws and violates the European standards of justice. Back in February 20-15, Ilan Shor said that he would want to collaborate with the prosecutors, a thing he always did and does”, said Ulanov.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

During the session, a group of supporters of Shor was protesting outside the Court with slogans like: “Freedom!”, “We want our mayor back!”, “Ilan Shor, Orhei is with you!”.
