The controversial businessman and mayor of Orhei, Ilan Shor, was retained on June 22nd for 72 hours. The arrest was applied after a hearing in a case where he is a suspect of tax evasion and money laundering of big amounts. Prosecutor Adriana Be\u021bi\u0219or, who is investigating the case of Vlad Filat<\/a>, declared that this case is a different one that the one from 2014, where Shor is already accused. <\/p>\n

“It is a new penal case for fiscal evasion and money laundering in big proportions. We asked the preventive measure to be applied. Thanks to the information from abroad, we will demand to prolong the arrest with 30 days. We are at the starting point. Don’t speculate. When we can, we will come back with information. <\/p>\n

We will tell you the sums. We want to advance in this case, which is huge. It is about 2014, the year of the giving of the credits, said Be\u021bi\u0219or”.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The lawyer of Shor, Denis Ulanov, declared that the arrest is illegal, claiming that prosecutors didn’t come with new proof and that his client collaborated previously.<\/p>\n

“It was a surprise for both the client and us, as lawyers. We are talking about the negative image of Ilan Shor, promoted by some public persons who influenced the prosecution office”, said Ulanov.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

His party Ravnopravie condemned the arrest, saying that this is “TV justice”. <\/p>\n

The General Prosecution Office of Moldova started the investigation regarding the dubious transactions between Banca de Economii, Banca Social\u0103 and Unibank in December 2014. Ilan Shor was the main controlling figure in the three banks. Thus, he was searched in February 2015 and even put in arrest at home in May 2015 for 30 days.
