The hearings in the trial of the former Prime-Minister of Moldova, Vlad Filat, will remain closed. On May 16th, the court rejected the demand of the lawyers to make the sessions public. <\/p>\n

“This is another proof that we don’t have an equitable trial. When the hearings are public, there will be no place for manipulations and wrong interpretations”, said Igor Popa, Filat’s lawyer. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Popa also announced that the at least 5 witnesses of the defendant, including the former National Bank Governor Dorin Dr\u0103gu\u021banu, didn’t come to the hearings. He stressed that the witnesses might be intimidated and suggested that they can be brought by force or fined to come to the hearings.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, prosecutor Adriana Be\u021bi\u0219or declared that she finds it strange that the defense wants to bring witnesses by force:<\/p>\n

“As you know, there is an admitted list of 14 witnesses that will be brought at the trial by defense. Without proof, the latter proved that they actually can’t bring the witnesses. Moreover, they came with a demand to the judges to forcefully bring them, which is strange to me. How can you forcefully bring a witness to make a statement in your favor at the trial?”, rhetorically asked Be\u021bi\u0219or. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Vlad Flat, arrested on October 15th<\/a> 2015, thinks his case is a political one and there is no evidence to prove his guilt. Filat’s arrest was prolonged several times since he was arrested.<\/p>\n

Former PM is accused of receiving money and goods worth some 250 000 US dollars from the businessman Ilan Shor during his premiership for offering some preferential services.
