The Day was celebrated with the organization of a European City where each country has its own presentation stand in the Square of Europe, center of Chi\u0219in\u0103u.<\/p>\n<p>The event was attended by the acting President Nicolae Timofti, the head of EU delegation Pirkka Tapiola, PM Pavel Filip and speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu.<\/p>\n<p>President Timofti marked the starting ceremony with a supporting speech:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I would like to be the last President of the Republic until Moldova gets the candidate status for European Union membership. Moldova deserves its presence in the big European family. In this respect, there is need for uniting all the progressive forces, for solidarity of people in the name of a prosperous and predictable future for our children&#8221;, declared Timofti.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The President also focused on the importance of the coming elections:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;On October 30th, we will elect by direct and universal vote the President of the Republic. The participation culture, in the spirit of European traditions, thus means a consciously given, rational, well-thought vote and not bought with electoral gifts.
