On April 27th, the Parliament of Moldova approved the reappointment of Mihai Poalelungi for the position of head of the Supreme Court of Justice, highest court in the country.
\nThe decision was made by 52 deputies of the majority. The Socialist MPs left the session before the voting process.<\/p>\n

Poalelungi was designated in February<\/a>. Representatives of the protesting movement entered on February 9th the session room of the Supreme Council of Magistrates and asked them to not reelect Mihai Poalelungi as the head of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) of Moldova. He was the only candidate for the position.<\/p>\n

Even the US Ambassador, James D.Pettit, doubted the legality of the election:<\/p>\n

\n\u201cWhat is happening at the Supreme Court of Magistrates? A single inside candidate? Is this what judicial sector reform is supposed to look like?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mihai Poalelungi has the experience of working as a judge in the courts of Moldova from 1989 till 2008, when at the European Court of Justice from 2008 till 2012, appointed during the Communist regime.
\nIn 2012, he was appointed as head of the Moldovan Court of Justice by the Parliament. <\/p>\n

Poalelungi’s integrity is greatly doubted and contested as the decisions of the Supreme Court are unprofessional and biased, favoring the governmental parties and specifically the interests of the circle surrounding the Democrat oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
