The new law on Prosecution adopted by the Parliament of Moldova will enter into force on August 1st 2016. The law will bring several<\/a> changes: the General Prosecutor will have a mandate of seven years and will be assigned by the President, after being proposed by the Superior Council of Prosecutors; increase of the prosecutors\u2019 salaries to a 90 percent level of judges\u2019s salaries.<\/p>\n

Some new changes were added to the initial law.<\/p>\n

The prosecution offices Cead\u00eer-Lunga, Comrat and Vulc\u0103ne\u0219ti from the autonomous region of G\u0103g\u0103uzia will unite into one: Prosecution Office UTA G\u0103g\u0103uzia. The sectorial offices of Chi\u0219in\u0103u, Botanica, Buiucani, Centru, Ciocana and R\u00ee\u0219cani, will join the Prosecution Office of Chi\u0219in\u0103u municipality. All the properties and building, the archives, the cases and the documents will be transferred to the joint office. The chiefs of the former institutions will work as deputies of the Chief Prosecutor until their mandates expire. <\/p>\n

The law also states that the prosecution offices from the Appeal Courts (Chi\u0219in\u0103u, Cahul, Bender, B\u0103l\u021bi), the military offices (Chi\u0219in\u0103u, B\u0103l\u021bi, Cahul) and the Transportation prosecution office will end their activity. The prosecutors from the latter will be offered the opportunity to transfer to the teritorial or specialized offices in vacant jobs. <\/p>\n

Moreover, a new Prosecution Office will be founded: Prosecution Office for Combating the Organized Crime and Special Cases. This institution will examine the cases with accusations of torture, terrorism, organized crime and others.<\/p>\n

The Anti-Corruption Prosecution will examine the cases of corruption and those connected started by the National Anti-Corruption Center.<\/p>\n

54 prosecution offices are currently working in the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n

The prosecution system is seen by local experts and Moldova\u2019s international donors as one that lacks professionalism and independence from politics. Thus, the previous General Prosecutor, Valeriu Zubco, and the acting one, Corneliu Gurin, reportedly served the interests of the Democrat Party, unofficially ruled by the oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc.
