A group of Moldovan engineers started a project in order to build a suitable car for people who use wheelchairs. The AVAI project<\/a> has the goal to raise funds in order to create and build the first AVAI car for Alex, a young man with mobility disability. <\/p>\n

“Alex is 27 years old and for the last 10 years he is captured in a wheelchair by his trauma. He suffered an accident which caused a spinal cord injury, before this he had an active lifestyle. Now he wants to be involved in the world outside his room, he wants to escape it, to work remote, to travel, to take part in special projects and to continue his once dynamic style of life. <\/p>\n

Alex has a job, a salary and kind people around him, he is still an active citizen, but limited by four walls and a wheelchair for which Republic of Moldova is still not adapted. Alex can not afford a special car having a pension which values just 7$ per month, that\u2019s why the AVAI team designed a special car for Alex relying on community\u2019s support. <\/p>\n

Solving Alex\u2019s problem we are offering a solution for anyone else in need”, the project managers confess. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The young engineers with some experience of building other vehicles now want to have AVAI made especially for Alex and people in need. According to them, the car is based on an existing chassis, which is approved and meets all the standards of safety. Moreover, it has an economic engine and an automatic gearbox. What is unique about this concept is the integrated wheelchair lift – a mechanism that lifts up and adapts the driver in front of the steering wheel.

\nThe wheelchair lift concept is, in fact, a mechanical assembly composed of a metal structure and two platforms, which are operated by hydraulic cylinders. Additionally, the entire mechanism is automated using electronic remote control.
\nAVAI will also have special features for Alex’s safety:<\/p>\n

The short-term goal of AVAI is to build the personal car for Alex, but the creators have thought more about it:<\/p>\n

“When Alex asked us to build a three wheel travel scooter, we realized we can do more for him and, at the same time, we can be useful for the entire world. When someone being in a wheelchair needs such a mean of transport, why can\u2019t we come up with a better idea for all those 65 mil people around the world who have the same need?!”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
