Head of EU Delegation in Chisinau Pirkka Tapiola answered only half of the questions from the open letter, which had been sent by the journalist Victor Nichitu\u0219. The journalist had asked to confirm or deny whether he had used insulting language against\u00a0the Republic of Moldova and Moldovan politicians, calling opposition leaders \u2013 \u2018rude\u2019 (b\u0103d\u0103rani) and those of power \u2013 \u2018mafiosos\u2019 (mafio\u021bi).<\/p>\n

Tapiola confirmed in a public discussion with a journalist from Chisinau that he used insulting language against Moldova, which he called a \u2018strategic village\u2019 (sat strategic).<\/p>\n

Responding to a comment on Facebook of a journalist of news portal www.deschide.md Svetlana Maftei, where he also discussed his insulting declaration towards his host-country, Tapiola admits that he used these words trying to explain what he meant, using diplomatic language.<\/p>\n

“[…] As regards your last comment\u00a0(expression: RM – strategic village – deschide.md note.) I have noted\u00a0the strategic importance of the Republic of Moldova many times. It\u00a0is a small country, where almost everyone seems to know everyone, but\u00a0it (is) one whose developments truly matters for the Europe,” answered Tapiola.<\/p>\n

According to Nichitu\u0219, the fact that Tapiola confirmed he had used the term \u2018strategic village\u2019 “confirms the belief that his Excellency only told half the truth and that in the private or semi-private discussions he uses insulting word to all Moldovan political leaders”. \u00a0The journalist claims that reliable sources informed him that Tapiola had used insulting language against Moldovan politicians, calling opposition leaders \u2013 \u2018rude\u2019 and those of power \u2018mafiosos\u2019.<\/p>\n

Nichitu\u0219 asks again Tapiola to take responsibility and recognize if he used such words because if he continues to hide the truth, the consequences can be heavier. “Moldovans, Mr. ambassador Tapiola, inherited a self-destruction proverb: “Bird perishes on its tongue”. This saying warns us about the fact that we cannot hide the truth forever and that by our attempt to conceal it, we will end in being covered by an avalanche of speeches, attitudes and manners that will do more harm than good. This wisdom is old and is protected by Moldovan self-destruction,” \u00a0writes the journalist.<\/p>\n
