Four years passed since the fourth President of the Republic of Moldova was sworn on March 2012. Nicolae Timofti was voted on March 16 2012 by the Moldovan Parliament with the votes of 62 MPs (61 minimum needed).<\/p>\n

Now his mandate as President expired. According to the 80th article of the Constitution, “the mandate of the President of the Republic of Moldova last 4 years and begins from the day of taking the oath. <\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Timofti will exercise his mandate until the new directly elected President is sworn in. <\/p>\n

Nicolae Timofti is the 4th President of Moldova. Before his mandate, he was a high-profile judge during both the Soviet and independence times, holding such positions as supreme consultant at the Ministry of Justice, Vice-President of Supreme Court and the President of the Penal College. After 1996, he was appointed as President of Appeal Court and held the job of the President of Judges’ Association of Moldova. In 2011, he was elected as President of the Supreme Council of Magistrates. <\/p>\n
