On March 22, the National Anti-Corruption Center of Moldova questioned the current mayor of Orhei and businessman, Ilan Shor, in the case of the frauds from Banca de Economii (BEM), reports Agora.MD<\/a>. Shor was brought to the hearing after prosecutors received some information from juridical commissions from abroad. <\/p>\n

According to prosecutor Adriana Be\u021bi\u0219or, several members of the Administration Councils of BEM and Banca Social\u0103 were questioned. Moreover, the properties of Ilan Shor will still be under the sequester of the prosecutors. <\/p>\n

“It is about the investigation of defrauding of the two banks by the decision-makers of the latter in November 2014. The frauds are enormous in both the case of Banca de Economii- 13,5 billion lei, and Banca Social\u0103- 13,2 billion lei. <\/p>\n

We received information from abroad and decided to do hearings for several accused persons, including Shor. The foreign commissions explained the procedures to us and handed documents which would be difficult to get”, stated prosecutor Be\u021bi\u0219or. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Be\u021bi\u0219or also mentioned that the Prosecutor’s Office made several calls to the USA and states of the European Union, in order to learn about the transactions and their final destination or beneficiary. <\/p>\n
