The European Court for Human Rights ruled that Moldova is obliged to pay 12000 euros for moral damage to the former head of Special Missions Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Corneliu Savca.<\/p>\n

According to Promo-LEX<\/a>, Savca was retained in arrest for 2 years 3 months, a period contrary to the constitutional limit of 12 months. Moreover, Savca was detained in bad conditions in the 13th Penitentiary. <\/p>\n

Savca thinks that the decision of ECHR is right:<\/p>\n

“The illegality of my detention and the degrading treatment were proven once again”, told the former detainee for Promo-LEX. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Republic of Moldova is now obliged to pay 12000 euros for moral damage and 1500 euros as juridical assistance costs. <\/p>\n

On October 21 2009, Corneliu Savca was sentenced to 5 years 9 months of prison for negligence at work. He was eventually acquitted and freed on July 21 2010, due to a decision of a superior court. Savca spent 2 years 3 months in preventive arrest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
