A group of journalists with white T-shirts writing “Free access for press!” organized a protest in the Parliament of Moldova. The protesters asked for free access at the sessions of the legislative body. <\/p>\n

Currently, the journalists have to stay in a press room, where they can monitor the legislative sessions. The photographers have access only for a few minutes at the beginning. <\/p>\n

Petru Macovei, the executive director of the Association of Independent Press, declared that the journalists are displeased that the leadership of the Moldovan Parliament promised to solve this problem two years ago, but didn’t do anything in this direction. <\/p>\n

“There were several calls, but there is no effect of them, even if they proposed once to let all the cameramen to film the decision-making process. They need to film how deputies gather and talk, how they whisper. We are angry that for two years the head of the Parliament keeps saying that the problem will be solved, but they didn’t do anything”, stated Macovei.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As a response, the speaker of the Parliament, Andrian Candu, declared that the reporters and cameramen can’t enter the session room, because “the design doesn’t allow it”. Contrary to his statement, the journalists showed they can fit in the balconies of the Parliament’s plenary room. <\/p>\n
