The Parliamentary commission assigned for selecting the candidate Governor of National Bank of Moldova has appointed Sergiu Cioclea for this position. The candidate will be soon presented to the Parlament in order to be voted with at least 51 votes out 101. <\/p>\n

Sergiu Cioclea is 42 years old and has an experience of more than 17 years in the financial-banking sector. Cioclea got his master and post-graduate degree at the University Pantheon-Assas from Paris. He speaks Romanian, English, French, Russian and holds three citizenships: Moldova, Romania and France. <\/p>\n

According to his CV<\/a>, Cioclea is an “economist, specialized in Emerging Markets with a specific focus on Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, CIS countries and Turkey” and “Expert in M&A, privatisations, reorganisations, portfolio management,
\nprivate equity, economic analysis and capital markets”. Having managed 62 M&A and 4 ECM deals and closed successful transactions with a total value above 30 billion US dollars in his background, Cioclea is now Member of the Executive Committee of BNP PARIBAS ZAO, Member of the European Management Committee of the Corporate Finance
\nDepartment and Head of Corporate Finance Department for Russia & former USSR area.<\/p>\n

His former high-profile jobs are:
\n-Managing Director, Head of Corporate Finance Department, BNP PARIBAS ZAO, Moscow, 2008-2015;
\n-Associate, Vice President and Director, Central & Eastern Europe Division, Corporate Finance Department, Paris, 2OOO-2OO7;
\n-Bond analyst in charge of CEE and Russia, Emerging Market Desk, Fixed Income Department, London, 1998;
\n-Senior economist in charge of CEE, Russia, CIS and Turkey, Country Risk Division, Economic Research Department, Paris, 1997-1999.<\/p>\n

In his motivation letter, the candidate states the main goals of his governance at the National Bank of Moldova: continue consolidating and cleaning up the banking sector, restore public’s confidence, resume cooperation with international financial institutions, curb price inflation and exchange rate volatility, and modernise the banking system and foster its global integration.<\/p>\n

Cioclea was chosen out of nine candidates<\/a> registered in the public contest.<\/p>\n

The public contest on the position of National Bank Governor was announced in the context of former Governor Dorin Dr\u0103gu\u021banu resigning after the theft of one billion US dollars from three Moldovan banks, which boosted inflation rate and depreciated the national currency LEU.<\/p>\n

The National Bank is the main economic regulatory institution of Moldova. <\/p>\n
