The Government of Moldova hopes 5+2 negotiations in the Transnistrian conflict will restart at the end of April this year, declared Prime-Minister Pavel Filip after the session of Reintegration Commission. A 3+2 negotiation round is supposed to take place at the end of March. <\/p>\n

Filip stressed out that Moldovan legal authorities hope for progress in this conflict during the presidency of Germany at the OSCE:<\/p>\n

This year we have an extraordinary chance, because the Presidency of OSCE is taken by Germany, a powerful country and it would be a pity if we don’t use this opportunity”, stated Filip.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Formal negotiations to reach a settlement on the Transnistrian conflict take place in a format known as the “5+2” talks. Negotiations are chaired by the OSCE, involve the two parties to the conflict (Moldova and the separatist Transnistria), and include the Russian Federation and Ukraine as mediators (the “five”). The United States and European Union are observers (the “two”). The most recent round of 5+2 talks, scheduled to take place in Vienna on April 10 and 11, 2014, was postponed.<\/p>\n

The Transnistrian conflict started in 1992, when separatists from the left bank of Nistru river backed by former Soviet 14th Army fought the authorities of the freshly formed Moldova and declared the Moldovan Transnistrian Republic. The break-away region was never recognized by the international community, not even by Russia who constantly sends financial aid and “peace-keeping” troops to keep the separatist administration in power.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
