New hearings took place on Monday, July 20th, in the case of the lost billion euros from the three banks of Moldova, Banca de Economii (BEM), Banca Sociala and Unibank.<\/p>\n

This time, the Democrat (recognized as the biggest Moldovan oligarch), Vlad Plahotniuc, and the Socialist Igor Dodon have been summoned to give testimony on the case at the National Anticoruption Center (NAC).<\/p>\n

While Dodon ignored the citation by leaving the country, the oligarch Plahotniuc came confident at the hearings in order to give all the information he has to the prosecutors. The funny thing is that the NAC reportedly belongs to Plahotniuc’s sphere of influence, because both the director and the main prosecutor are reportedly relatives of the Democrat MP.<\/p>\n

The hearings began in May 2015, when NAC took over the investigation regarding the huge theft at BEM, equal to one eighth of Moldova’s GDP.<\/p>\n

Before Plahotniuc and Dodon, the prosecutors summoned for hearing the former PM Iurie Leanca (2013-2014), former PM Chiril Gaburici (February 2015-June 2015), the chairman of the parliamentary committee in charge of investigating the banking frauds, Marcel Raducan, former Minister of Finances Anatol Arapu, former member of the Parliament’s economic committee, Oleg Reidman, former President of the BEM administration and now the controversial mayor of Orhei Ilan Shor, and other responsible people from all the political parties and all the financial state institutions.<\/p>\n

The case of the stolen billion euros is called the “theft of the century”, because of the huge amount of money that was gotten out of Moldova through fake loan schemes and operations.<\/p>\n

The hole made by the stolen money has to be filled with monetary funds from the state budget of the Republic of Moldova, so the Moldovan economy is slipping into a crisis easily, helped by high-level corruption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
