Representatives of the protesting movement entered on February 9th the session room of the Supreme Council of Magistrates and asked them to not reelect Mihai Poalelungi as the head of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) of Moldova.<\/p>\n

The leader of the Platform “Dignity and Truth”, Andrei N\u0103stase, declared that Poalelungi is “Plahotniuc’s tool” and that he is involved in raider and money laundering schemes. At the same time, the Vice-President of “Our Party” claimed that Poalelungi was involved in the illegal withdrawing of his party from the electoral campaign of 30 of November 2014.

Even if the General Prosecutor was present at the session, the requests to investigate Poalelungi’s history of judgement were not fulfilled. The Prosecutor Corneliu Gurin said that no specific cases were opened against or related to the head of the SCJ.
\nIn his turn, the President of Supreme Council of Magistrates, Victor Micu, stated that “the related proof wasn’t presented”.
\n
\nWith a break of almost 3 hours, the Council appointed Mihai Poalelungi as the president of the Supreme Court of Justice of Moldova with 9 votes for and one against. The only member that didn’t vote was Tatiana R\u0103ducanu. The procedure was merely democratic and transparent as Poalelungi was the only candidate for this position.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The US Ambassador, James D.Pettit, doubted the legality of this election:<\/p>\n
