The Government of Moldova approved on Wednesday, 3 of February, the so-called “integrity package”. It will provide the reform of the National Commission of Integrity and the whole system of wealth and interests checks among the state officials.<\/p>\n

Thus, the new law says that the officials will be dismissed for not declaring their financial situation and their interests and will not be able to have a public position for 3 years. <\/p>\n

The law provides ground for the confiscation of the goods illegally acquired. Moreover, the officials will be prosecuted for not declaring the real estate from abroad.<\/p>\n

The National Commission of Integrity will have a president and a vice-president appointed by the chief of the state, but also a new position of the integrity inspector (30 in total), who will monitor closely the income statements and the personal interests of the officials. The inspectors are to be appointed by several institutions.<\/p>\n

The law was proposed by the Minister of Justice, Vladimir Cebotari. The civil society didn’t have the opportunity to debate it or propose some additions to it. <\/p>\n

The draft law was ready to be approved even in 2015, during the Gaburici Government.
\nThen, the Democrat Ministers, including the current PM Filip, didn’t vote for the project, stating that the “party doesn’t agree” on the integrity package.<\/p>\n
