The Speaker of the Parliament of Moldova, Andrian Candu, had a briefing on Friday, January 29th, stating the decision of the Parliamentarian majority of 57 MPs about the ultimatum given by the protesters. <\/p>\n

Candu declared that the majority agrees on organizing a Constitutional Referendum regarding the election method of the President of Moldova.<\/p>\n

I would like to have a dialogue with the leaders of the protests, but they are not open about it.

\nAfter negotiating within the majority, and this is not a generally agreed opinion, still we agree and accept the possibility of organizing a national referendum to decide the method of electing the President. It means helping those people who started to collect signatures earlier. We make this offer to be approved in the Parliament.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Candu stressed that there is a need for legal framework for all the demands of the protesters. According to the speaker, the designation of a new Governor of the National Bank already started, while the Petrenco case can be only monitored by the Parliament. <\/p>\n

When referring to the dismissal of the Internal Affairs Minister Alexandru Jizdan because of reported “police abuse”, Candu denied, saying that the accusation are “false and unfounded”. <\/p>\n

Candu also said that the “Parliament cannot dissolve itself, except for the cases when a Government cannot be assigned, the Parliament doesn’t work or its activity is blocked for more than 3 months”.<\/strong><\/p>\n
