Technovation Challenge Moldova in partnership with UN Women in Moldova, Endava, eGovernment Center, YOPESO, Peace Corps Volunteers and GirlsGoIT is organising a GirlsMakeApps workshop to kick off the 2016 edition of the program on Saturday, January 30 from 11:00-17:00 at Generator Hub! <\/p>\n

An event for girls in school (10 to 18-year-old approximately) who want to learn how to develop mobile apps and participate in a global challenge. <\/p>\n

Technovation Challenge is the world\u2019s largest and longest running tech competition for girls. In Technovation, teams of young women work with mentors and coaches to identify a problem, create an app to solve it, code the app, build a company to launch the app in the market, and pitch their plan to experts all in 3 months. It teaches girls life skills such as how to identify a problem, design and test a solution, collaborate with a team, and communicate to different audiences. Teams pitch and submit their ideas (through video) and participate in regional competitions. Once all projects are submitted, ten finalists are selected worldwide to compete in the final competition in California.

In 2014, a team from \u0218tef\u0103ne\u0219ti, Flore\u0219ti in Moldova competed in this challenge by creating a phone app that provides users with a map of local wells and their water quality. They travelled to the finals in the US and were awarded first prize of $10,000 to implement their project and app idea.
\n\"Dr<\/a><\/p>\n

In 2015, a team of girls in Chisinau created an app called Dr Cough, that will help you to diagnose your respiratory disease in a simple way.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cFacilitating learning and skills building for girls in technology is in line with our company\u2019s vision and helps counteract the general idea that the IT field is only for boys. A larger representation of women in technology related jobs will bring more diversity in the workplace and close the gender gap. For example, during the past two years we have doubled the ratio of women in our Chisinau delivery center with a 70: 30, male: female mix.
\nGirls getting computer science degrees, girls writing code and making apps, girls developing their careers and being able to start a family at the same time is something that we strongly endorse in the new generation of female engineers. We\u2019re very happy to support this edition and look forward to seeing some exciting mobile apps.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u201cAccording to EU Digital agenda, by 2020, 95% of jobs across all sectors in EU will require digitals skill and youth in Moldova, especially young women have the willingness to explore the opportunities in the digital economy but the willingness is not enough and there are various structural and stereotypical barriers, especially for girls to equal benefits from the mainstream development. This is why UN Women in Moldova, together with partners, are supporting girls so that they can fulfil their rights and future through digital and IT skills.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

eGovernment Center<\/strong>
\n\"Michelle\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cGovernment is looking to boost the number of women in ICT-related jobs. The main way to get more women onto these sites is to give them more education. Many are discouraged from endeavouring to find success in ICT due to a perceived lack of support. The only way to reach women, especially in rural areas is through online courses and opportunities like Girls Go IT and Technovation. The main message of those kind of projects is\u201d you have your rightful place within this sector.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
