The BBC and other well respected foreign policy experts are completely wrong when it comes to explaining the protests here in Moldova. They believe this has Russia\u2019s fingerprints all over it. They couldn\u2019t be more wrong.<\/p>\n

There is one word which encompasses the Moldova protests: corruption. Moldova has been without a \u201cgovernment\u201d, or Prime Minister to lead Parliament for months (Moldova has had 3 PMs this year already). The people want early elections in order to completely cleanse corrupt political leaders. But the powers-that-be will not listen to the people and are brazenly acting against their interests.<\/p>\n

The Moldovan President Timofti appointed a Prime Minister (Pavel Filip) today under everyone\u2019s nose. The appointment meeting with the President and Parliament deputies was kept secret until word got out last minute. At 1pm today, Andrei Nastase (DA Platform leader) created a Facebook post, calling for everyone to meet for a massive emergency protest at the Parliament building to protest this scandalous appointment. And the appointment was done by a simple majority of deputies \u2014 all bribed or puppets. Mr. Filip will also be another puppet of Vlad Plahotniuc \u2014 the country\u2019s most powerful oligarch who controls politics and media. Filip is an old-schoolyard friend of Plathotniuc. Thus, he will be there to continue the already cancerous spread of corruption. Every branch of government in Moldova is infected with this disease and every citizen in Moldova is protesting this.<\/p>\n

The DA (Demniatate si Adevarul\/Dignity and Truth) Platform has been protesting the corruption \u2014 more specifically, the $1billion stolen from the people and the national banks \u2014 for the past five months. They have made their home on the main square in front of the government building in downtown Chisinau, the capitol city. The Socialist Party and \u201cOur Party\u201d (another Russian-backed party) soon followed suit, setting up camp in front of the Parliament building just down the road. Some say that the Socialists are simply jumping on the bandwagon so they can win public support and regain power.<\/p>\n

However, to argue each party\u2019s endgame does not benefit this discussion. I will explain that another time. But to say the least, Moldovans are completely fed up with the corruption that plagues their country. This corruption pushes them further into poverty and sends hundreds of thousands to migrate to other countries each year. Dana, a Moldovan woman who lived through the Soviet Union, says, \u201cIt does not matter who gets voted in. I don\u2019t care who it is or who does it. We need to get rid of this corruption!\u201d<\/p>\n

And that is the sentiment of every Moldovan.<\/p>\n

So, today the Socialists, \u201cOur Party\u201d, and DA protestors came together to protest the secretly appointed Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who is simply another Plahotniuc plant. They are also protesting for early elections in order to completely flush out the corrupt leaders. Both the DA and the Socialist party leaders stood by each other on the Parliament steps to call out their political leaders who have sold the people out. Both the DA and Socialist protestors stormed the Parliament building. Both parties\u2019 supporters pushed against police. Both continue to protest against the \u201cJudas Iscariots\u201d of Parliament who have betrayed the people.<\/p>\n

This is NOT a Russian incursion, such as in Ukraine. Western media want you to believe that this is all Russia\u2019s doing. That is false. This is a coordinated effort across party lines to protest against an unfathomable amount of corruption and corrupt politicians. And the protests have become violent because the people are so desperate. No one will help. And no one will step up. So they have decided to cleanse the disease by themselves.<\/p>\n
