The World Bank Institute published a new Open Company Data Index<\/a> based on results offered by Open Corporates. As it is described, OpenCorporates wants to make information about companies and the corporate world more accessible, more discoverable, and more usable, and thus give citizens, community groups, journalists, other companies, and society as a whole the ability to understand, monitor and regulate them.<\/p>\n

The characteristics of a national business database for classification are:
\n1. Freely searchable- possibility for basic company data
\n2. Licensing- open licence or no licence
\n3. Data freely available- full dataset can be downloaded or accessed over an API
\n4. Directors- publicly available data includes company directors
\n5. Accounts- annual accounts are freely available
\n6. Shareholders- available data includes shareholders<\/p>\n

Moldova was placed on the third place due to the achievement of 80 points of transparency out of 100 possible. The Moldovan database is losing only at not publishing the names of the directors and the shareholders.
\nThe winning national databases of companies are those of Denmark and United Kingdom (90 out 100 points).<\/p>\n

The transparency of the Moldovan business has improved a lot<\/a> in the last years, after the publishing of the list of business owners and founders, and mainly because of the proposals made by the Economic Council of the Prime-Minister.<\/p>\n
