The Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” started today<\/a>, November 1st, to collect signatures for organizing a national referendum in the Republic of Moldova. <\/p>\n

The civic protesters want to change the article in the Constitution regarding the presidency, so that the President of Moldova would be elected directly by the people, and not by the MPs as now.
\nIn order to raise awareness and collect signatures, 21 tents have been installed in the Great National Assembly Square. Moreover, there will be recruited 300 volunteers who will work in the regions to make the plebiscite possible. <\/p>\n

We will register our group at the Central Electoral Commission. Then, we will gather those 300-400 thousands of signatures in order to modify the Constitution, so that Moldova can elect the President by its people”, stated one of the leaders of the Civic Platform.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Until now, the election of the President of Moldova was done by at least 61 out of 101 (three fifths) members of the Parliament, according to the 78th article of the Constitution.
\nThis type of election proved its bad part between 2009 and 2012, when Moldova had no President for almost 3 years because of lack of substantial majority by the Pro-Europeans and the disagreements with the Communists. <\/p>\n

Right now, the elected President Nicolae Timofti, who was largely criticized for being inactive and ineffective towards the political class, runs out of his mandate (end: March 2016). Therefore, another political crisis is coming in Moldova, taking in account that the Pro-European parties (Liberal-Democrats, Democrats, Liberals) almost totally lost people’s trust and the Pro-Russians are rising from the dead through new suspicious activists. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
