The National Anti-Corruption Center (NAC) of Moldova will be taken under the control of the Parliament from the Government. This decision proposed by the Democrats was adopted in two lectures by 65 MPs, except the Liberal-Democrats, who contested the session.<\/p>\n

According to the new law, the director of the Anti-Corruption Center will be named by the Parliament and will have a 5-year mandate, without the possibility to continue another one after. The law also states that the potential directors shouldn’t be party members or shouldn’t have done any political campaigns in the last two years.<\/p>\n

A NAC director can be dismissed with a majority (51 votes), at the request of at least 20 members.<\/p>\n

It is interesting that the law was proposed and voted after the Liberal-Democrats demanded the resignation of the current director Viorel Chetraru and the General Prosecutor, Corneliu Gurin, threatening with quitting the Pro-European coalition.<\/p>\n

The contradiction between the Liberal-Democrats and the Democrats, the main actors of the Pro-European coalition, came right after the Liberal-Democrat leader Vlad Filat was arrested<\/a> for bribing and bank frauds.
