On Thursday, October 15th, the General Prosecutor of Moldova, Corneliu Gurin, addressed to the Parliament with the demand to lift up the protection of the Liberal-Democrat leader Vlad Filat. The last one was accused of huge extortion of money for some decisions, being reported by the involved businessman Ilan Shor.
\nThe Parliament voted the lifting<\/a> with 79 votes without hesitating and pause, giving Filat the right for a speech after the voting. Therefore, before being arrested by the Anti-Corruption Center officers, Filat held a deconspiring speech, explaining that the oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc seeks to eliminate him from public space and get the control over all the state institutions. In 20 minutes, he didn’t hesitate to criticize himself for “tolerating Plahotniuc and its structures”, but also to criticize the other parties from the Parliament:<\/p>\n

We know, mr. Voronin (former Communist President) that you grew this monstrous creature. We all know that the Democrat Party is totally subordinated to him (Plahotniuc). I know that Leanca (former Filat’s mate and PM) was taken from our party to become a true “European”. I know that you, mr. Ghimpu, and you Liberals, especially the mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, are threatened with cases by “puppet-master” (…)
\nI do not want preliminary Parliamentary elections, but “he” wants them. Because, in all possible scenarios, his party can form an alliance with the Socialists or with the Pro-European parties (…)
\nLet this system blow! Just let it!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He was taken by officers directly to the Anti-Corruption Center for the hearing.<\/p>\n

Filat’s anger or honesty is rather reasoned than spontaneous, because Plahotniuc and his subordinated structures always followed all the actions of the Liberal-Democrat and tried to threaten with big cases of corruption and frauds.
\nLater in the afternoon, the Democrat oligarch announced his retirement from the party and the political life in order “to not be accused of influencing the power institutions”.
\nNevertheless, the political situation is now clearer than ever in Moldova.
\nEven the Prime-Minister Valeriu Strelet, now the leader of Liberal-Democrats after Filat’s arrest, stressed:<\/p>\n

I have the feeling that my hands have been let free, that there is no more threat or illusions like “be careful what you are doing with the airport”. Still, I am not sure that the wizards from the General Prosecution Office won’t make up a case for me.
\nI have the full confidence that mr. Filat is a powerful person who can defend himself and prove he’s right. I am sure that the executor, the reporter and main beneficiary of this will go home in the calm of his castles built on stolen money (reference to Plahotniuc).\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Strelet underlined that he wants to keep the Government to not generate preliminary elections, but he asked for support from the civic protesters.
\nLater, according to the Anti-Corruption Center, the office of the Liberal-Democrat Party and Filat’s home have been searched by prosecutors in order to find projects, lists of members or other documents.
\nThe pressure on the Liberal-Democrats rises up as Plahotniuc intends to find proof to destroy the opponent’s party.
\nEven though Filat is now a victim of this oligarchic “terror”, he shouldn’t be pictured as a hero, due to his very probable involvement in the banks fraud and his cooperation with Plahotniuc during six years.
\nFor the society, Filat isn’t actually worth to worry about. His courage to make the image clear was appreciated, but not taken as a justification.
\nNow the question is whether the Liberal-Democrats will stay firm on their positions and cooperate with civil society to overthrow the oligarchy or they will continue the disgusting political show with Plahotniuc?<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
